150th Anniversary Celebrations Underway
Updates from Lexington
On January 1, 1869, The Legion of Honor publicly announced its existence as Sigma Nu Fraternity. Our founders had no idea that what they started would grow and impact the lives of so many in the 150 years that would follow. As Founder Riley once described, “What a little band of youngsters it was…What a power it is today!”
Throughout the 2018-2019 academic year, Sigma Nu is celebrating its 150-year history of commitment to Love, Honor and Truth, with special regional receptions across the country. Each reception will feature a traveling exhibit of historical items from the Sigma Nu archives and a special documentary on the 150-year story of the Legion of Honor.
Several of these scheduled celebrations have occurred in Indianapolis, Dallas, Seattle, and Philadelphia to name a few. The other celebrations will take place throughout the year:
Birmingham - February 2019
Oklahoma City - March 2019
Houston - March 2019
Atlanta - April 2019
Each of these celebrations are currently in the planning process and more information can be found on Sigma Nu's website - 150th Anniversary.
These celebrations are an opportunity for our alumni brothers to come together and celebrate not just our history but the fraternal bonds and fellowship of Sigma Nu. As Brother Adam Fledderman (Indiana State) recalled from the celebration in Indianapolis, "It reminded me of the best memories I have. The ones that have endured. The ones that helped me grow from a boy to a man, that allowed me to endure the growing pains of the emotional and intellectual transition. I know, without a doubt, that at 18 I was not mature enough to have made it through college with the temptations and distractions. Sigma Nu allowed for me to navigate these, to give me a centering basis to focus on lifelong goals and growth."
Join your fellow Sigma Nu brothers in celebrating this historical anniversary.
