The Community Service and Philanthropy Awards recognize chapters for their significant contributions to community service and philanthropic organizations and for having the highest per member average contributions in either service hours or philanthropic dollars.

2017 Community Service Contribution Award

Zeta Xi Chapter (UC Davis) received the Community Service Contribution Award with a per member average of over 85 hours of service contributed over the course of the academic year. The chapter helped coordinate numerous efforts within the Davis, Calif. community including outreach to the city’s homeless population through the chapter’s Random Acts of Kindness event, or RAK, and a partnership with the Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway Program. Chapter Brothers also volunteered with several organizations such as the Hillel at Davis and Sacramento, the Yolo County Food Bank, Solano Land Trust, T.R.O.T.R, the Atria Covell Gardens retirement home, Grace Garden, and the Davis Waldorf School.

2017 Philanthropy Contribution Award

Iota Pi Chapter (Kennesaw State) was recognized with the Philanthropy Contribution Award as the chapter with the highest per member philanthropic contribution at an average of $1,117 per member. Iota Pi Chapter raised and donated nearly $57,000 this year, with $52,000 going to the support of the Ovarian Cancer Institute. The chapter’s largest philanthropy event, the Teal Cup Golf Tournament, was hosted in partnership with the Ovarian Cancer Institute and honored the life and story of the wife of a chapter brother who was lost to ovarian cancer. In addition to the chapter’s work with the Ovarian Cancer Institute, the chapter raised funds for several other organizations including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Boys and Girls Club.
