Chapter and Alumni News
Jarl Bliss (James Madison) and his wife Beth are receiving the Inez Graybeal Roop Distinguished Service Award in recognition of their outstanding service to James Madison University. Both Beth and Jarl are dedicated JMU volunteers. Jarl currently serves as chair of the College of Business’s Board of Advisors and Beth is vice-chair of the Women for Madison Advisory Council.
They emerged as alumni leaders during the Madison Century Campaign, making significant contributions including a faculty fellowship in the College of Business, an undergraduate research fellowship in the College of Science and Mathematics, and a gift to support the renovation of Bridgeforth Stadium. Beth and Jarl also served on their class’s 25th reunion committee. The class of 1984 raised $1 million in honor of their reunion and Beth and Jarl helped to spearhead that effort.
Beth and Jarl met at JMU in their junior year, when Jarl served as the intermural soccer coach for Beth’s sorority. Beth is a sister of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Beth earned a B.S. in biology from JMU and Jarl earned a BBA in accounting.
Jarl is President of Lincoln Military Housing, comprised of almost 30,000 military homes in bases coast-to-coast for the Army, Navy and the Marines. Beth left a successful career in sales and management to be a stay at home mom to their three daughters.
