Collegiate Board Member
Position Description
Are you interested in interacting with successful alumni who work together to secure resources to support the educational programming of the Fraternity?
Would you like to participate in board meetings and board discussions that will give you a greater understanding of the needs of the Fraternity and efforts to engage our alumni?
Would you like to have the opportunity to talk about the value of your Sigma Nu experience with potential large donors?
If you answered “yes” to these questions, you should consider applying to be a Collegiate Director of the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation board. In this role, you will participate in two face-to-face board meetings and committee conference calls with successful alumni Directors to discuss initiatives to secure resources that will ultimately benefit the Fraternity. You will also be invited to participate in monthly Executive Committee conference calls to be fully apprised of the Foundation’s activities. You will have equal voting power to the alumni Directors. Furthermore, you may play a vital role in convincing potential donors to support Sigma Nu’s work by discussing the value of your own fraternity experience. In this role, you will be representing the interests and providing input on behalf of the entire collegiate membership.
Position Expectations
Following are expectations the Foundation board has of its Collegiate Directors:
- Active participation in all meetings (in-depth orientation will be provided in advance of your first meeting); face-to-face meetings usually occur in January and June (over a 2-day end-of-week period)
- Fundraising skills, like recruitment skills, are important in any future career. To this end, Collegiate Directors are asked to attempt to raise $2,500 to cover their meeting expenses. These funds can come from alumni, parents, and friends of Sigma Nu and will assist in expanding the area of influence of the Foundation. Failure to raise the full amount will not affect your status as a board member and the alumni Directors stand ready to assist you in your efforts.
- Term of office is one calendar year, beginning with College of Chapters in odd-numbered years and in January for even-numbered years.
A call for applications for these positions, as well as those of Collegiate Grand Councilmen, are distributed to all collegiate members in the fall of each year with responses due in early December. To apply, please complete the Collegiate Board Member application.
