Lexington, Va. – Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. has suspended the charter of Lambda Alpha Chapter at Wake Forest University. The decision to suspend the charter, made by the Fraternity’s board of directors (High Council), followed confirmation of violations of the Fraternity’s law, policies and principles, related to alcohol misuse and hazing, as well as violations of the policies of Wake Forest University.
“Sigma Nu regrets the loss of the Lambda Alpha Chapter. However, in keeping with our mission to develop ethical leaders, the Fraternity cannot tolerate such violations of its law, policies and principles,” said Executive Director Brad Beacham. “For more than 25 years Sigma Nu Fraternity has supported the growth and development of students at Wake Forest University. We will work with Lambda Alpha alumni leaders, University officials and student leaders to reestablish this legacy of leadership at Wake Forest in the future. We are grateful for our strong partnership with Wake Forest University and we appreciate the University’s continuing support.”
The Lambda Alpha Chapter at Wake Forest University was founded in 1986. Headquartered in Lexington, Va., Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1869 at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington and has 169 active chapters and colonies on college campuses throughout the United States.
