Statement Regarding Matter At Eastern Washington University

Sigma Nu Fraternity is aware of reports that three collegiate or alumnus members of theFraternity’s chapter at Eastern Washington University were arrested earlier this week in Cheney,Wash., related to apparent possession of illegal drugs.
“Sigma Nu Fraternity is a values-based organization committed to our mission to developethical leaders for society,” said Brad Beacham, executive director of Sigma Nu Fraternity. “As such, we do not condone any conduct by a member that is in violation of the law.
”The Fraternity is working closely with officials of Eastern Washington University in order togain as much information as possible. The student leaders of Sigma Nu’s Theta Lambdacollegiate chapter, supported by their alumni advisors, are cooperating fully with University staffand law enforcement officials regarding this matter.
“When it is appropriate to do so, the Fraternity will take appropriate action in response to both member misconduct and any violations of the law that occurred,” Beacham continued.
The local chapter is gathering information and will address disciplinary action as appropriatethrough the Fraternity’s judicial process. “Our chapter members will continue to cooperate with EWU, local police, and our national organization regarding the recent reports of three members engaging in illegal activity," said Taemin Um, chapter president.
"These members are being held accountable in accordance with our Fraternity’s national bylawsso our chapter can take appropriate action," Um continued. "I regret that they have broughtdisrepute to our Fraternity, our community, and EWU. We are confident that our response tothese charges will show our community that we do not condone this type of behavior.

The Theta Lambda Chapter at Eastern Washington University was founded in 1970 and has initiated over 300 men.
Headquartered in Lexington, Va., Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1869 at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington and currently has 176 active chapters and colonies on college campuses throughout North America.
