Lexington, Va. – Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. has suspended the charter of the Kappa Gamma Chapter at California Polytechnic State University, Pomona. The decision to suspend the charter, made by the Fraternity’s board of directors (High Council), followed confirmation of violations of the Fraternity’s law, policies and principles as well as violations of the policies of Cal Poly, Pomona. Violations included hazing activities and the misuse of alcohol.
"While Sigma Nu regrets the loss of the Kappa Gamma Chapter, the Fraternity remains dedicated to the pursuit of its mission to build ethical leaders and thus cannot tolerate misconduct that not only violates our law and principles but also threatens the safety of members," said Executive Director Brad Beacham.
"We are grateful to have a strong partnership with the administration at Cal Poly Pomona and we look forward to re-establishing the chapter in a manner that reflects our mutual goals. We will continue to work with alumni leaders and University officials toward the restoration of the chapter when the time is right," Beacham added.
The Kappa Gamma Chapter of Sigma Nu was founded at Cal Poly, Pomona in 1982. Headquartered in Lexington, Va., Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1869 at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington and has 171 active chapters and colonies on college campuses in the United States.
